It is a snake with the ability to fly that appears in Chinese legends. It is mentioned in various ancient texts and is called the "divine beast" because of its various meanings.

The book in which the snake is mentioned is "Kangshi" (The Study of the Laws of the Regulations of China), written by Jiang Zhi. In this book, it says, "The snake has no legs but can fly. But the flying serpent has five skills, but it is not so good at flying." The book also says, "The soaring serpent, which has no legs, can fly. This is a metaphor for the fact that the soaring snake, which has no legs, can fly freely in the sky and is superior to the flying squirrel, which can glide through the sky and climb trees with great dexterity.

中国の伝説中に出てくる飛行能力を持った蛇です。様々な古い文献中に出てきており、様々な意味を持っているために神獣と称されます。

螣蛇が出てくる書物に荀子の《勧学》があります。この本には、”螣蛇は足がないが飛べる。しかし、モモンガは五技があるが飛行はそれほどうまくない。”とあります。これは足がない騰蛇が空を自由に飛び回れることで、空を滑空できて木にも登れる器用なモモンガよりも勝っていることを例えており、凡人でも一心不乱に一つ物事をすすめると、足が無くても騰蛇のように空を自由に飛べるようになるので最後には必ず成功することを表しています。

These are called the boundary deities, each of which guards the direction of its fixed position.In CHD's own interpretation, the five deities that govern the element of defensive instincts when viewed from the daily zodiac sign that represents the person himself/herself are the Sacred Beasts that protect him/herself.

これらは結界神と呼ばれ、それぞれが定位置の方角を守っています。CHDでは独自の解釈で、本人の命式を表す日干支からみた時に、守備本能を司る五神を「自分を守ってくれる霊獣」としています。
